Hello Race Fans,

Well, today proved that the winter season is here.  We've never seen
such variable conditions at Whitepoint as we did today.  Big kudos to
Rey and Mike for getting the course set up before noon, as the CD was
a few minutes late :-)

Something new this time around was a total lack of wind, apparently
being smothered by a thick marine layer.  We enjoyed talking shop with
some new guys from San Diego who stopped by to check the action.
After a brave attempt to fly Joe Z's Colibri HLG, things were starting
to look a little iffy.  Gradually, around 1:30pm we felt the stirrings
of a breeze, and I tossed out my MiniBlade, and it stayed up!  At
1:45pm we had started Round 0, and laying down some blistering rounds,
such as Rey's 81.50….

Things quickly filled in with Mike setting the pace with a 55 and a 54
in Rounds 1 and 2.  That's when things got interesting.  The lift
pretty much went away for a while.  Bob could barely get back above
the horizon and then he was followed by his son Alex who suffered
through a 75.95.  That's about when Rey reeled off a 60 and 59,
burying us all.  Mike got back in the hunt, and won the next 3 rounds.
One of my favorite moments was when Warren stepped up for his shot at
Rounds 7 & 8.  He started off Round 7 with an inauspicious beginning
and began chiding himself (loudly) saying how bad he sucked at flying
sometimes.  Then *something* happened and he got his Blade XL smoking
fast and set the fastest time of the day with a 54.09.  Like you said
Warren, everyone gets lucky once in a while :-)

Another highlight was meeting the world famous Joe
"ZagiCrazy/KingOfTheHill" Zepda, and watching him take to F3F like
fish to water.  Best quote of the day came from him as he borrowed some
lead slugs and flew his MiniBlade loaded up for the first time.  I
think his exact quote after getting his fastest run of the day was, "Ooohhh....I
LIKE ballast."  LOL, everyone thoroughly enjoyed Joe's enthusiasm.  I
look forward flying with you a lot more Joe.

I want to say THANKS to everyone who came today.  Every one was very
helpful and the turnover of turn judges went extremely smoothly.

Oh yeah, another great part of today was that there was ZERO carnage
during the entire F3F comp.  Everyone nailed their landings.  Great
job everybody!
