Greeting Fellow Slope Racers!
Well it was a nice windy day to
say the least, gusty at times.
Looks like the Bluto's are
taking over the domination in
both the 48 inch foamie and the
60 inch foam LE class. The
Moth also looked good in the 48
inch foamie class. There was one
three way mid air where a Colin
was flying the Gulp made a nice
turn but there were two other
planes directly in his path.
The Gulp had a little nick in
the wing but there were parts
flying every where from the
other two planes.
The unlimited guys flew a few
good heats but the racing of the
day was between Bob Bingham and
Gary Legerton in the 60 inch
conventional class. Gary was
behind Bob by 2 points with
those two flying head to head in
the last two heats. Gary took
the heats which forced a fly
off. There was very little blue
sky between those two all day.
About half way through the fly
off, brain fade set in and
forced Gary to cut. I know
he did not do it on his own.
This left Bob to cruise home for
the class win.
SIDESHOW: The first flight
of the Corsair was typical, as
soon as the plane was airborne,
the wind dropped out and I
performed a perfect belly flop
landing which could be heard all
the way to Riverside I suspect,
but there was only a small crack
in the bottom center of the
wing.
Bob was airborne with the King
Cam and caught a few frames of
the Corsair below him.
Later in the day, duct tape
holding the wing crack together
and much better wind, the
Corsair flew for about 10
minutes. Knowing I was
going to design a new stronger
wing, I attempted to dip into
the gully behind and get a
little DS kick on the way up,
but there WAS no way up, the
wing let go and the tree in
center field made
a diving catch. Bob has
some of the carnage in tape too.
The BD-5 was a real kick after
the races were over, wish I
could make it to the PSS
Festival, yet another one passes
me by. My races, oh yes I
did spectacular, er fabulous, ah
well the crashes looked funny
any way. I have a real big
smile on my face
though, very fun day. --
