Greeting Fellow Slope Racers!

You missed a glorious day at the races today, sunshine and a dang good racing. Unfortunately only four racers,,,,,  but lots of races for those who showed.
Air was light around 7- 8 knots but fun in the beginning shortly after 12pm, almost straight in.  Built to around 10  by mid afternoon only slightly coming from the right, not bad.

Today was a lesson on mid airs, Bill and I, and Ballast for the conditions. I went down at the far end and so did Bill but about 8 feet across the finish line for a win.
Three points for the DNF killed me and put me in a Fly of with Pat and his Bluto.  More on that later.

The E-Racer was clearly faster at 27 oz in the first round of heats, one leg to over two legs ahead, over 41 oz Blutos of Pat and Richard,  and Bill’s stoutly built Ricoshe looking for more air.  Mid round slightly fresher air, Blutos closed up, Bill still looking for a little more air but much more competitive.

Last round, wind about 10 with some small puffs, new ball game.  E-Racer no longer had a speed advantage at the same weight.  Speeds now very even, whoever did the turns right and maintained some speed could sneak ahead, lead changes were exciting.

Then the Fly-off for all the marbles, myself with E-Racer and Pat with his Buto  I got to say, this was one fun race.  In the heat of battle, details are fuzzy.  The Start was right there with both on the line at go…..  I think Pat had the edge and held on for some legs, then we swapped and I think more than once.   Going into the last light, I had maybe a length on Pat,  both with a good last turn.  Coming down the final leg I was pushing and then had to climb slightly, Pat had a little height and pushed,,,,,,   it was so close I thought I won, Pat thought he won, the CD ruled in favor of Pat with his extra speed got the nod in the last couple of  feet.    Thinking I had won, I jumped up and down and forgot I was flying.  Where is my plane????  I had crashed into the bush just beyond the finish.

I want to tell you, it was fun.  Congrats and thanks Pat for a great race, we were doing high fives…..  you're mine next time. I got to get the ballast system in……

I think we have a couple of racing converts in Pat and Richard, both seem to have a love of the sport.  Richard was seen perfecting his turning style and wanting to know when the next race is…..

48” Foamie
Only three players, I am working on a 48 to enter this class next time.  I worked the lights on all rounds, not sure of the finish order.  Two Blutos  and a Combat wing.  Pat made a fine showing with a combat wing…. I am sure Bill will post the results later, racing for the most part was very close.

Thanks Bill for putting on the show……..  New lights coming in time for the next one,,,  One MILLION almost instantaneous candle power, should be nice.  -- Dan Field
