Hi race fans
Sorry for the delay in reporting, got sick Sunday night, must have been
Ray
Kuntz special Hamburger joint... not really, just kidding, good burger.
Special thanks to Ted for taking over CD duties all day running races.
Anyway.. Whitaker was hot and not much wind wasn't looking too good. Some
foam went out testing the air, it was like a giant thermal just about any
where you wanted to fly, when you did find sink it was just that sink, get
out of it.
Ray K. convinced us by show and tell the air was good enough to race by
completing 8 pretty quick laps in very little breeze with a heavy plane,
so
up with the course and sign ups. Not sure, must have been 2 pm when we
started. All we Whitaker MOM newbies were surprised by how fast the
planes
were going in no air to speak of, we could have started earlier and got in
a
few more rounds than the three we did get in.
Still a good day for most. I must say my race with Rey Harju was my most
exciting single MOM, knees were shaking, legs were weak. I tipped stalled
with 9 seconds to go, so very late to the start line. Caught Rey by leg
one
or two but could not pass, we were locked through the entire race and
finished with overlapped wings. Later I was told we had many misses of
less
than a foot at the light turn. Congrats to Rey for winning that one and
providing an exciting race.
Willy old fox and Unlimited Veteran Ray Kuntz is your winner, undefeated
all
day. I was lucky enough to scare him a bit ( Ray said, not me ) closing
in
a bit in our race, but he just beats us up with good flying and I bet he
knows wing loading very well for his planes. And,,,,, most likely his
knees
don't shake as much.
Congrats to Ray on a fine win. Only plane I saw that may have had a
chance
against him went out in the first leg of the first race, Bill Highfield.
Unfortunate situation in the lead and Ray Kuntz and a quote from Bill "
you
flew right up my pipe".. needless to say, Bill was not too happy and
packed
up for the day.
I don't think we had any other planes out including landing which were
quite
easy right at your feet next to the pilot base, tall grass no rocks.
I think Warren Day has been bitten as well by the race bug, flew well and
has a good eye for the far end, wasn't leaving much.
Hope Bill and Gary come back next time..
and here are the results, next MOM is Foam.
1. Ray Kuntz 3 - Home Brew
2. Tie - Rey Harju 4 - Miraj
/Warren Day 4 - Blade XL
3. Dan Field 5 - Pike X

Regards
Dan Field
