Beacon Ridge Flying Site, Grapevine Area, CA USA

Beacon Ridge.  A Santa Ana site that should work from ENE to ESE, with abundant (if slightly challenging) soft , tall grassish landing areas and easy access for any standard car or truck.  Suitable for F3F and Unlimited Slope Racing.  Possible DS potential.  Approximately 1 hr. north of LAX next to the old Ridge Route and east of I-5.

Directions from Los Angeles area:

  • Go north  on I-5 , up the Grapevine

  • Exit at Templin Highway (same as Whitaker)

  • Turn east on Templin and go 1.1 miles to stop sign at Ridge Route

  • Turn north onto Ridge Route and go 5.1 miles

  • At sharp right curve, look for the stakes and signs for the underground gas line, then go 100 ft. and turn off the paved road onto a dirt access road on the right.

  • Proceed uphill and the site will be all around you, with the slope on the left.

Park anywhere you like, but watch for ignition of the tall weeds by hot cats or mufflers.  Land in the soft stuff by flying parallel to the face along the crest and dump it while still moving.  Beware of the odd gas line sign as you come in.
