Point Fermin - Slope Site Information

Point Fermin, San Pedro, CA USA
Pt. Fermin is an amazing spot to race, thanks to consistent and often times incredibly strong ocean breezes.  This is a kid friendly kind of place, with play structures, drinking fountains, restrooms, and a large lawn area to run around in.  Parking is free, along the street.

This is a shear cliff, so plane recovery can be difficult if you lose it on the front side.  There is a longggg trail down to the water should you loose it.

Landing is not hard, but takes some getting used to.  There are different techniques and preferences, but I find it best to stand where you fly, bring your plane over the road towards the hill beyond, turn a 180, and land on the hill, as you are coming back at you.

Don't land in the infield grass area in the park!  There is a HUGE rotor and you may seriously hurt someone, or your plane.

Directions from Los Angeles area:
  • Take the 91 Freeway West to the
  • 110 freeway South until it ends into Gaffey St.
  • Continue South on Gaffey St., until it ends.
  • You are now facing Pt. Fermin park, and the Pacific ocean.
  • Park along the street under the big trees, or to the north, just past the main bowl area.
  • Where the grass narrows nearest the concrete bench area is where we stage our planes.
  • Scale the wall and fly to the right of the "bunker"
  • Always coordinate flights with local Heavy PSS'ers, and respect the Authorities at all times.
